science?english?religion?wha?
I went to this speech held at my campus about...hmm..weeks ago. I can’t remember la. Anyway, the speech was about science and religion. The speech was given by two well- known figure in the education field. It was an interesting speech because i think, the way they (the panels) blended their thoughts towards both science and Islam was indeed very fascinating and 'mengujakan!'. It provided lots of interesting thoughts and I almost felt like I got a wake up call from the speech given.Ok ok..the speech was about science in Islam and how we should actually relate our science knowledge with our creator, Allah the Almighty. Emm..To learn and master something about science is one thing...In order to get ‘keberkatan’ is another thing!! I guess most of today’s scientists have forgotten about the need to relate their science knowledge with God and religion. That is why we can see lots of damages being done despite those massive researches and science development the world has gone with! I believe the world would have gone better if all these geniuses and knowledgeable people do their researches or whatsoever with their religion guidance. O ya, besides relating science in Islam, one of the panel insisted that we can actually learn science in many simple ways, depends on own culture, environment and social background (which I personally agree with. can’t deny that.). He also mentioned that we don’t really need to learn science in foreign language (e.g: English).Yes, that WAS true.,(i repeat..WAS!)
But now, with the world itself heading towards globalization, I think the use of English in science teaching is relevant and the fact that our ministry of education decided to use English in science teaching at the first point is a very important move and can give a very good impact in our science culture. In my opinion..I think that the move (er..using english as a medium in science teaching) will increase our science educational standard (ok..so that we can stand tall with others). Hmm..I think it would be easier for students and teachers to learn and teach science in English because many of today’s reference books are written in English. Of course, we can still learn science without using English language. But it would be better if our students learn and understand science in English. I don’t know what others might think, but to me, all i can say is that..it is a need for today’s generation to master both science and the language as well.
Anyway..the speech was great (seriously). It has opened up my mind and it makes me think differently now (different view, different perspective!). till then, caucincau~

Well, basically, most of the science terms come from Arabic, when Islam was in its peak of civilisation. Now, since it's the western civilisation era, the new updated terms are in English language. Still, to gain the content of the knowledge is via the language, and here we are, becoming future teachers of Malaysia. Insya Allah.
Ainee..yeah..most of the terms (e.g:algebra!obviously!) derived from arabic. but now..since d main medium is english, i guess, whether we like it or not, we have to use english as d medium to deliver.but that doesn't mean we have to follow the whole western ethics, right?=)
soooo right!

huhuh, even ramai je saintis skrg disagree dgn teori darwin tuh. and kne msk dlm syllabus, that students should be inquisitive and curious, seek information from various resources, then be analytical and critical yet logical. hurm, is that too much to be asked?
uh huh..no more spoon-feeding!~
-until now i still couldn't understand why people still studying darwin's 'oh-sgt-la-xbetul&temberang' theory on human evo.if so, why those urang utans/monkeys/chimpanzees xtransform jd human pun?brainless peeps.huhuhu-
wahhh!! bestnya~ nk dengar jugak speech tuhhh~! huhu...
I went to the event as well. There's much I can say here..The speeches were really an eye-opening. It embraces the beauty of Islam as a perfect way of living. It actually helps me gained a clear perspective on Islamic Science where indirectly made me proud to be a science stream student. Also, it helps me in shaping myself to be a better Muslim. Most importantly, it helps in turning the hearts of good Muslims towards Him.
I’ve been telling myself over and over again that Islam is not a religion alone. It’s the way of live. It has covered every aspect of life. Most of us didn’t really make full use of Quran. There’s nearly everything about life in the holy book. We know it. But, only a few believe in it. And for those who’d realize it, it’s always been left forgotten.
And the very fact that Muslim scientist is actually took a lead in scientific world, should not be taken for granted. They’ve proved that nothing impossible to a willing heart.
Science idea is about life and the likes. Science is a knowledge that should be able to bring us back to the Almighty, not keep us further apart from Him. Muslim scientists are a whole lot difference with Western Scientist. They seek for Allah’s blessing. Science is taken as a way of understanding life. Digging deeply to find more information in knowing the creator. By knowing more, we are indirectly come nearer to Him. Science is the medium not the vision. Western Scientist study science in the sake of glory and pride. There's so much lie in them esp Darwin's Theory. To come to think on that; we know we're far better and much different from plants(of course, ain! duh~) and animals..why still mengagung-agungkan that theory, kan?
There’s lot to improve in order to bring back the glory of Islamic Science. I’m sure we can work it out as long as we have the will to do so. In searching for life’s answer, we shouldn’t put religion and culture aside. Muslim should have a very good grasp in Islamic thought, understand the cosmological message of Quran, not only the ethical message it brings, but the hidden meaning as well. It’s fully aware that this is not an easy job. It’s very daunting and difficult task. But, it’s not impossible, as long as we have the will. And Allah will always be there to help.
I remember a sentence I believe stated in Quran:
''Terokailah alam sejauhnya, semampu kamu dan kamu memerlukan kuasa dan ilmu''
And I've came across Seyyid Hossein Nasr article on Islam & modern Science.. The Islamisation of Knowledge, is now being discussed in educational conferences throughout the Islamic World, which is finally going to bear some fruit. Muslim should be thought to be proud being Muslim and we should realize the beauty of Islam. Western Scientist is actually the modification branch of Islamic Science. And thus, Muslim should all aware of that.
In conclusion, we live our life for HIM and should always go back to HIM.
We design our future. We were given choices and we choose.
We can't choose our life's beginning but we can choose it's end.
We are not live to view choices, and then choose. We need to think.
As we need the idea.
Fatin- Speech tu ringkas je..tp best!imagine..ape yg saintis kite jumpe bnyk2 tu sbnrnye mmg dah dinyatakan dlm quran dah pun~magic kan?hahaha.
Ain- "Science is a knowledge that should be able to bring us back to the Almighty, not keep us further apart from Him."- agree sgt2!
yes, Islam does not neglect science and science is part of religion. we are encouraged to seek knowledge in the first place, and that is one of the characteristic of a good scientist. in fact, way before the brilliant scientist discoveries, it's already mentioned in the quran. and now, the issue is about sustaining environtment, and it agrees with the quran, which already stated it 1400 years ago! Subhanallah.
We should really hold fast to the quran, the trustable resource, valid and relevant all the time.
i couldn't agree with u more,ainee~
